Our Story
2001
After three years of helping plant a church in the suburbs of Seattle, Pastor Eugene and Minhee Cho felt called to shift from a homogenous, Asian context to a multiethnic community. After several months in transition, they had their first gathering of 11 people in their living room and shortly after began to lead a bible study in the U-District. As the group grew, the gathering shifted from a bible study to a Sunday worship. In June 2001, they began to worship in the warehouse owned by Interbay Covenant Church and a few months later, the church of 30 people joined denomination of the Evangelical Covenant Church. On October 14, 2001, Quest Church officially launched.
2007
For the next six years, Quest continued to meet in the warehouse (which later became Q Café*). During that time, many conversations were had and prayers were prayed, and on June 2, 2007, Interbay Covenant Church, a church with a history of over 70 years, “gave itself” to Quest and joined our community and ministry.
*Founded in 2002, Q Cafe was a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-religious community coffee shop, rental space, and music and arts venue designed to serve the Seattle community, particularly the Interbay, Queen Anne, Magnolia, and Ballard neighborhoods. Upon Quest’s move to the Ballard neighborhood in September 2015, Q Cafe closed its doors after 13 wonderful years.
2015
As Quest continued to grow, it became evident that a larger location was needed. After several years of searching and much prayer and discernment, the church membership voted to move forward with the purchase of a new building just across the bridge in Ballard. On September 13, 2015, Quest had its first worship service in the new location.
2018–2019
On Sunday, June 3, 2018, Pastor Eugene announced his resignation from his role as lead pastor of Quest Church, effective September 30, 2018. Quest’s Elder Board honored and supported Pastor Eugene in his decision and for his obedience to the call that God placed on his heart. On May 19, 2019, the Quest membership voted to call Pastor Gail Song Bantum, at that time Quest’s executive pastor, as Quest’s next lead pastor, and she accepted the call.
