You will probably be hearing more and more for me as we prepare to host refugee families this summer and fall. I encourage you to pray about how you can get involved with this vital ministry. This past week (on Saturday) Quest participated in the Refugee Project in the International District and then on Monday we had a representative come and teach on the ways in which we can volunteer to bring support to refugees who are moving in the area.

Perhaps you've already heard of the 10 year plan that the city has implemented in their strategy to end homelessness. It is our city's intent to create more housing and services for the lowest of income people in Seattle and to particularly target those that fall in the chronically homeless category through a program called Housing First. We are already two years into the plan and in 2007 our city allocated $41 million towards the efforts of ending homelessness. It is an ambitious goal and over 30 organizations, churches and advocates endorse the plan to make this plan a reality.

Global Day of Prayer for Burma

It's been about 2 years since my trip to Thailand and the border of Burma with several other questers and the fears that I had in leaving have somewhat been realized. My fears of apathy, comfort, amnesia, and the inability to act once I returned from all that I had seen and heard have sadly come true in many ways. All the high hopes and dreams had somehow become more subtle and subdued after having returned back to life in the states and my mind simply began to forget. This blog entry is not about my confession, rather it is a sad commentary of American life.
